Acute and Chronic Pain

AllCare is in continuous pursuit of ways to reduce our patients symptoms. There is ample evidence supporting the therapeutic impact of dry needling of myofascial trigger points. This evidence supports the idea that myofascial pain is perpetuated by dysfunction at the neuromuscular junction. Several of our therapists are trained in trigger point dry needling, which is the use of acupuncture needles to treat active trigger points in patients with acute and chronic pain. Therapeutic effects include improved range of motion, increased blood flow, decreased pain, and overall improved tissue health.

Low Back Pain

The most effective approach in treating low back pain is hands-on therapy combined with rehabilitative exercise and education. To relieve low back pain, learning the correct neutral spine posture is important for all activities and in rest. Strengthening and flexibility of the trunk, arms, and leg muscles aid in maintaining this correct posture. In addition, trigger point dry needling, ice and/or modalities are often used to reduce inflammation.

Shoulder Pain

Rotator cuff tendonitis, tears, and impingement syndrome produce pain and difficulty when using the injured arm, especially when reaching overhead.  Hands-on care, proper strengthening and inflammation control can often successfully solve these problems. If additional treatment with an orthopedic surgeon or physiatrist is necessary to solve the pain it is often combined successfully in conjunction with physical therapy.

Knee Pain

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are a common sports-related injury. Aggressive strengthening and range of motion restoration protocols are crucial in returning to full function. Other conditions such as meniscal tears and arthritis also respond well to physical therapy.

Neck Pain

Whether neck pain is due to injury or incorrect postures, it generally responds well when joint motion is restored, muscles regain their pliability, inflammation is relieved, and one learns how to maintain the ideal neck posture. To further speed up the healing process, treatment includes strengthening of the supportive muscles as well as shoulder, chest and back muscles. Muscle tension headaches may often accompany neck pain and respond well to these therapies.

Postsurgical Rehabilitation

Many surgeons refer their patients to AllCare for post-surgical rehabilitation of repairs of the ACL and rotator cuffs, and hip and knee joint replacements.  Treatment includes manual therapy and exercises following established protocols to increase strength and range of motion and to improve balance and coordination. Electrical stimulation and other modalities are often used to reduce pain and inflammation.

Neurologic

Neurologic conditions respond well to physical therapy treatments. Strokes, head injuries, spinal cord injuries, vertigo and other neurologic conditions are effectively treated with exercise and motor retraining. Exercise is often used to retrain one’s balance and coordination while also increasing strength. Instruction in fine motor skills, proper transfer techniques, and activities of daily living improves the quality of life for patients.
